In this tutorial, we illustrate the use of Cosling Configurator through a use case applied to pool sales. We specifically show the different techniques that simplify, clarify, and streamline the configuration process so that a novice user can effectively use the tool and quickly obtain a fully priced and tailored configuration.
The configuration interface first invites the user to select the desired pool type from the following options: Lap Pool, Family, Compact, or Design. This initial choice helps initialize the configuration with default values specific to each category. For example, by choosing the "Lap Pool" configuration, the proposed pool will feature an elongated shape and a sleek design. Conversely, by selecting the "Family" option, the pool will be wider, meeting the needs of a family. The initially suggested values, such as dimensions, remain fully customizable.
The user can modify various values with ease while relying on the configurator to detect any anomalies and suggest adjustments. Thus, the displayed configuration remains valid at all times.
To ensure a smooth and intuitive experience, the configurator breaks the process down into several successive steps. The user is guided to choose a package, adjust the dimensions, customize the design elements, review aspects related to maintenance and safety, and finally, obtain a detailed quote.
Although the products can be complex, the configurator aims to simplify the configuration process by highlighting key decisions without overloading novice users with unnecessary technical information. The configuration forms focus on specific variables, which can be named, ordered, grouped, and configured through different interaction modes (checkboxes, drop-down lists, text fields, thumbnails). Additionally, explanatory images, diagrams, and detailed textual descriptions can be integrated to enhance user understanding.
To enhance interface clarity, certain fields dynamically appear based on the user's choices. For example, when selecting a saltwater chlorinator, fields related to the water volume to be treated and the number of required salt bags automatically appear. This feature ensures that only relevant elements are displayed, providing a clean and user-friendly interface. Furthermore, the number of salt bags is dynamically calculated based on the predefined water volume, ensuring optimal configuration.
Throughout the process, the configurator evaluates the total cost in real time based on the selected options. The configuration concludes with a detailed summary, including a breakdown of the pricing for each selected option.
